CUSTOMER IN FOCUS - DARREN TAYLOR

Once a month we feature one of our customers about their health and fitness journey and life in general. This month we are featuring Darren Taylor (photo in the Elite Tracksuit).

Starting his fitness journey in 2011, Darren was overweight and started working on his diet and running, since then he has run numerous marathons and other races and we couldn't be prouder of you mate, read Darren's journey below:

Where are you from?

I was born in Toowoomba Qld, then moved out to Dalby Qld in 2006.

What got you started on your health and fitness journey?

In 2011, I was severely overweight. I started to realize I couldn’t keep heading in this same direction. I started working on my diet and started walking, which turned into jogging.

If anyone, who do you look up to for health and fitness inspiration?

I don’t follow anyone particular for inspiration. I like the guests on Brad Beer’s “The Physical Performance Show”, where he interviews coaches, athletes etc. I really enjoy Neil Wood’s Youtube Videos “2 Running Ducks”. It’s inspirational to listen to his insights and journey towards his up and coming events and running.

What is your favourite fitness activity?

Running, Cycling, Cardio (like Boxercise) & Gym.

What has been your favourite event/race to date?

2018 Gold Coast Marathon. This was my first marathon and I joined Team Pogo. In this team, I met Jon Meeks and Scott Clark (aka The Green Warrior). When I was struggling at the 30km point, Jon & Scott joined me as we ran and shuffled the last 12km. As a team, we locked hands and crossed the finish together.

Why would you recommend Maw Active?

The clothing is comfortable while practical for your desired sport. Not only is the clothing ideal for your sport, but also in our daily lives.

What adversity have you had to overcome to get to where you are?

External factors as in people who say you shouldn’t run or cycle as you’ll permanently injure yourself. Internal factors can include self-doubt. I wasn’t active at school. It is very easy to bring these thought patterns into adulthood.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?

It would have to be losing 40kg in weight. This was the beginning of the rest of my life.

What is your favourite piece of Maw Active gear?

How do I choose one?? I ran a PB marathon in the Charger Singlet in Brisbane in 2021. This and the Trainer Tee are great for running and gym. The Lift Shorts are great for running as it has 2 zipped pockets. Ideal for your gels and other nutrition. The Shield Hoodie, Elite Pullover & Elite Tracksuit Pants are ideal for warmth.

What are two things you attribute to achieving your goals?

A good support crew whether they are friends, family or some very cool people on Social Media. A fighting spirit and a happy outlook on life.

What is your next event/race?

GC50 on Dec 4, 2022. I’m doing the 50km event.

If you could what event/race would you like to undertake in the world?

I want to the New York Marathon. If everything works out, I’d like to this in 2024.

Thanks so much Darren for sharing, how you have changed your life around through health and fitness and become such a great part of the Maw Brothers is amazing. I have met Darren on a number of occasions and it is always great to catch up, has a positive attitude and a great bloke. We really appreciate your support legend and thank you for been so inspiring.

We look forward to featuring next month's customer in focus.

Thanks Shaun
